Google recently released the latest version of the open source software ‘Android 4.0′ which they have titled ‘Ice Cream Sandwich’. Sounds like something you would buy from a street café, but is it really that good to eat?
The Ice Cream Sandwich release brings a new focus on ease-of-use and aesthetics. While Android 3.0 focused solely on large-screen mobile devices, Android 4.0 improves many of those features and scales them down for use on mobile phones, too. It offers a more refined user interface with lots of new innovative features such as:
• Lock Screen Feature: The lock screens now let users do more without unlocking. From the slide lock screen, users can jump directly to the camera for a picture or pull down the notifications window to check for messages.
• Improved e-mail Features: which make it easier to receive and send emails
• Improved web browsing
• New home screen folders: which offer a new way for users to group all their apps. and
• Shortcuts together in a place that the user can define by a simple drag and drop method.
But what’s my favorite new addition to the ‘Ice Cream Sandwich’? The new Face Unlock feature, why do I love this feature? Phone security, how often are phones stolen, lost or left lying around for others to pick up and use? All the time that’s how often, but at least now, unless they have cloned me, I can be safe in the knowledge that they will not be using my phone running up a massive bill or sending messages to people they should not. Oh, and if you ever decide on a face lift and your phone does not recognize you there is a back up unlock PIN or Pattern. Genius!
