Hannspree is a brand name that HannsStar gave to their following line of products: televisions, laptops, netbooks, LCD monitors. Since many manufacturers are now making their own version of Android tablets, Hannspree don’t want to be left out and started to make their own tablet known as the Hannspree Hannspad Tablet that runs Android 2.2 Froyo. I am wondering why they are not using the latest Honeycomb.
The 10.1-inch Hannspree Hannspad Tablet is heavier than other tablets with its 1.7lbs weight and it is also chunky with its 10.2”(W) x 0.5”(H) x 6.7”(D) net dimensions. The heavy Hannspad’s is also paired with heavy power adaptor. Maybe this tablet is made for “The Hulk”!
The 10.1-inch (1024 x 600 resolution) tablet is powered by 1GHz Nvidia Tegra 2 Dual Core Processor with 512MB DDRII 667Mhz and runs Android 2.2 Froyo. It features mini-HDMI (supports 1080p), mini-USB (USB 2.0), Micro SD’/SDHC, along with the headphone and power ports, all of these are located along the left-hand edge (landscape view). For connectivity, it is equipped with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 2.1 but I’m sorry to tell you that this device does not support 3G.
The front face of the tablet is glossy black with silver trim that runs through the edge of the device while the back is made from black plastic. The glossy front surface is a fingerprint magnet but it is common to most glossy tablets.
I think the tablet is made to be comfortably used in landscape mode since the orientation of the Hannspree logo is in landscape at the bottom of the screen and the border of the screen is bigger on one side compared to the opposite side of the screen. But don’t worry; it can also be used in portrait mode for it is equipped with G Sensor and 3 axis Accelerometer and Magnetometer.
The touch-sensitive Home button is located on the upper right of the screen where the thumb can easily access it but sometimes you can accidentally touch it while watching a movie. The Wi-Fi, power and charge indicator lights are all located at the bottom left of the screen.
The screen is responsive but not instant and you can still experience a minor delay when using the pinch-to-zoom and scrolling through the pages of the web browser even if the Hannspad is powered with a dual core processor. I expected this tablet to have a very good display since Hannspree primarily makes screens, but the resolution (1024 x 600) of the screen is coarse compared to other 10.1-inch tablets. The color reproduction is not good and the viewing angle is very limited.
I am very disappointed when I discovered the 10.1-inch Hannspad having no front and back camera making it obviously useless for video calling, capturing images and videos. But if you think you have your own digital camera to do the job by the way, you may still want to purchase this one.
The keyboard of this tablet is different from an average tablet’s QWERTY keyboard. The Hannspad’s keyboard utilizes the whole width of the screen but it is split into two making it difficult for others who are already used to the standard keyboard.
The good thing about the Hannspad is its long battery life. It is packed with a 27 Watt-Hour battery that can sustain continuous video playback for 7:02 hours and it will last for 9:40 hours surfing the internet compared to the iPad 2’s 6:39 hours.
Even though the quality of the Hannspad is not perfect, it is still an option if you are in a tight budget.
