This eagerly awaited tablet is obviously a major fan favourite as it sold out within seconds of release in the UK. According to Engadget, the Asus Eee Pad Transformer is the “best Honeycomb tablet yet,” and we are inclined to agree with them. (UPDATE – it’s currently $397 at Amazon.com and £359 at Amazon.co.uk!
The first thing that catches your eye with the Eee Pad is the excellent IPS display, and its cool water-level Live Wallpaper. The water level moves with the orientation and drops with the battery life so you know when it needs refreshed. The tablet itself is bigger than both the IPad and Motorola XOOM, but if you are smart enough to purchase the impressive Keypad Dock along with it, you can transform it into a mini netbook, which, if you are anything like me when it comes to smashing technology, will help you protect the screen a little better than some cases.
The Keypad Dock is easily the most impressive feature to come with the Transformer. The Tablet simply slots into the Dock and allows you to type more easily than Honeycombs default keyboard. Not only does the Keypad Dock, help with typing, it also has some handy shortcut keys along the top and an estimated extra 6.5 hours battery life built in.
The Transformers Best Bits
- 10.1 inch 1280-800 IPS display
- Touchscreen that supports 10-finger multitouch, with toughened Gorilla Glass
- 1.2mp front-facing camera and 5mp rear camera for still and 720p HD video.
- 9.5 hours of battery life
- And of course the genius Keypad Dock which allows you to create and edit documents.
What could be improved
- Display loses its effectiveness in direct sunlight
- Camera and Video software is a little jerky and slow.
You can get your hands on both the Transformer and its dock for a cool £429, while the tablet alone will only set you back £379, undercutting the famous iPad2 by twenty quid. This is by far one of the fairest priced androids on the market at the moment.
Due to the addition of the Keypad Dock this tablet feels more like a portable laptop and therefore more value for money. Although it doesn’t do everything a laptop can do, the Dock allows you to concentrate on work, as well as enjoy the simplicity of a tablet for gaming and reading. So you can easily take this in your travel bag and not miss your main computer too much.
Do you own the ASUS Eee Pad or plan to buy one when it comes back in stock? Is the dock necessary? or should a keyboard be just for laptops?
We really want to hear what you have to say… so don’t be scared, write a comment!

I have seen many useful things on your web-site about pc’s. However, I have got the viewpoint that netbooks are still less than powerful adequately to be a good choice if you frequently do things that require a great deal of power, such as video croping and editing. But for website surfing, statement processing, and the majority of other prevalent computer functions they are perfectly, provided you never mind the little screen size. Thank you sharing your opinions.

Hello David,
Unfortunately there is no slot for a SIM card with this tablet. But the tablet itself has a slot for a Micro SD card. And if you invest in the dock it also has a standard SD card slot.
Hope this helps.
